up2talk Connects EBU and Czech Radio for Nonstop US Election Coverage

During the recent U.S. election night, up2talk played a key role in delivering uninterrupted audio from the Eurovision News Events’ live visual radio studio, set-up for Czech Radio’s “American Night” special broadcast. The broadcast ran on-air and on YouTube from 23:00 to 10:00 CET, with Czech Radio’s Prague studio as the main broadcast location, featuring a multi-camera setup and bringing in live guests and experts through IP-codec, ZOOM, and vMix connections.

“up2talk held steady over the entire 18-hour broadcast without a single drop in connection.”

The  temporary visual radio studio in Washington DC, acting as one of the remote locations, used up2talk as the main audio connection, with an IP-4c as a backup line. The primary codec profile for up2talk was set to Opus 448 kbit/s to ensure high-quality audio, while the IP-4c backup operated at Opus 192 kbit/s. On the Czech side, the connection linked up via an IP-4c through the EBU sip server. In addition, one camera stream was sent through vMix, with video and audio synced during pre-broadcast testing to ensure seamless integration.

The Washington-based team streamed nonstop from 16:00 to 10:00 CET, covering both preparation and live broadcast time, without experiencing a single drop in the main up2talk connection. up2talk’s portability and straightforward setup allowed the team in Washington to manage the connection efficiently without the need for additional hardware.

This setup highlights up2talk’s ability to meet the demands of modern remote production, offering dependable, high-quality connectivity in fast-paced, complex broadcast scenarios. up2talk continues to prove its value as a flexible, resilient solution for live, remote audio transport. We’re excited to explore more ways up2talk can support broadcasters as they innovate in remote production.
