The HDR-CC (HD Radio Capture Client) is a compact and cost-effective solution designed for HD Radio systems of the latest Generation 4 systems. It enables broadcasters to capture a digital or analog stereo audio channel and seamlessly transmit it to an HD Radio Importer over IP. This makes it possible to place supplemental channels like HD2, HD3, and HD4 at a different location than the Importer, and efficiently expand the HD radio offering without requiring complex infrastructure.
Additionally, the HDR-CC includes built-in sound processing capabilities ensuring that the supplemental channels maintain a balanced loudness level in comparison to the main program or can be customized to better suit specific content needs.
Emergency Alert System (EAS) Integration
The HDR-CC’s core feature is its ability to simplify emergency alert insertion. Thanks to a new feature implemented by Xperi, only one HDR-CC is needed to insert an EAS alert across all HD subchannels (HD2-HD4) of a station.
The process is straightforward:
-
The EAS audio is connected to the HDR-CC.
-
A GPI trigger activates the emergency alert.
-
The HDR-CC logs into the Importer and replaces all supplemental channels with the alert.
-
Once the GPI is released, the HDR-CC logs out, and normal programming resumes.
This solution eliminates the need for complex audio switching that was previously required to comply with FCC regulations.
