The „Weihnachtspreis“ – A 2wcom Tradition

For some, it’s the most prestigious award imaginable, as long as they don’t win it. For others, it’s a reminder to tread carefully through December. At 2wcom, the Christmas season isn’t just about celebrating successes and spreading holiday cheer—it’s also about celebrating our very human, sometimes amusing, moments with the Weihnachtspreis.

Every year, we look back at the “oops” moments that brought us unexpected laughter. These moments could happen at the 2wcom headquarters in Flensburg or while working across the globe. Big or small, each story highlights that even in the most professional environments, things can go hilariously wrong (and leave us with a great story to tell).

Over the years, we’ve had many memorable nominees for the Weihnachtspreis:

Sending an IBC meeting invitation to a customer—only to accidentally include the weekly meal plan from our neighboring canteen.
An automatic email response informing us that they will be “on vacation for the next 9 months.”
A meeting scheduled... on a Sunday.
A member of an organizing committee forgetting they were supposed to give a presentation.
Setting the company alarm while colleagues were still "hiding" in the building.
Instead of calling one person, a colleague managed to ring the entire company—then left those who picked up hanging, with no explanation.
Someone opting not to use a headset during hours of meetings in a shared space—much to the dismay of their office neighbors.
A DIY desk assembly gone wrong: after predrilling their own holes (out of frustration), the builder realized the table already had predrilled holes... just on the "wrong" side.
A calm colleague surprising everyone on a car ride to IBC by yelling “Schnauze!” (“Shut up!”). Clarifying later—quietly—that she was addressing a bottle, not a coworker.
While on company travels, an overly enthusiastic toaster led to a full building evacuation! The fire department nearly broke down the toaster’s door—because while everyone else gathered at the 'correct' emergency meeting spot, the 2wcom employee was calmly waiting somewhere else entirely.
Accidentally creating a virtual loop from home that temporarily disrupted the company’s systems—sending everyone into an early end of the workday (with a lot of confusion).
Traveling to the UK post-Brexit without a passport. Spoiler: it’s not ideal.

Each of these moments was a strong contender, but only one can take home the Weihnachtspreis each year. The real winner, though, is the shared laughter and camaraderie that come from embracing these mishaps as part of the journey.

The Weihnachtspreis is more than just a humorous tradition—it’s a reflection of our unique culture at 2wcom. While we pride ourselves on being a professional and modern team, we never forget that it’s okay to laugh at ourselves and support each other through the occasional hiccup.

So, as we wrap up 2024, we look forward to crowning this year’s Weihnachtspreis winner. Will it be a classic tale of miscommunication? A travel mishap? Or perhaps something we haven’t seen coming?

One thing is for sure: at 2wcom, every story has a place, and every laugh brings us closer together.
