nettwark the successor of our SIRC

Our Satellite In-band Remote Control (SIRC) software is discontinued, but still supported. It is replaced by our new remote control software called nettwark. nettwark is able to control all of our 4audio series devices including all IP, MPX, RF, DAB and SAT products.

nettwark is a word in our northern German dialect and means “network”.

Why is there a new software instead of SIRC?

We are changing the SIRC to a complete new software stack including web UI, the underlying linux and IP transport mechanisms. This helps us to provide the nettwark on modern IT infrastructures, linux operating systems and containerized solutions.

Will there be backwards compatibility with FlexDSR, DSR and other devices?

Unfortunately, nettwark will introduce a breaking change. The main reason for that is a change from ASCII commands to a more modern and extendible JSON structure. You can read more about why this change is necessary here. To help in this unfortunate situation, we designed nettwark so that SIRC and nettwark can co-exist to guarantee a smooth transition.

It is possible that a nettwark can remotely control a SIRC to send commands to older devices, but this requires further development work on request of our customers.

Smooth transition: How can I run both systems SIRC and nettwark?

In order to get a smooth transition from SIRC to nettwark or if you have FlexDSR devices and 4audio devices in the field, nettwark is able to run next to the existing SIRC system with its own transmission. Nothing needs to be changed in the SIRC configuration and topology of the devices.

In consequence, our customers can run commands on SIRC which will be interpreted only by the FlexDSRs and older devices, but also use nettwark at the same time to control all new devices.

How long will I get support for my SIRC?
