IBC 2026 is a wrap!
After a busy few days in Amsterdam, we’re taking a closer look at some of the latest developments we presented at IBC this year.
From new FM and DAB+ reception options to expanded MoIN functionality, improved interoperability and new monitoring features, this article gives you an overview of what’s new across our portfolio.
Not every innovation needs a new box.
Many of our recent innovations extend our products at the important interfaces: new signal sources, improved interoperability, and features for monitoring.
More Ways In
Our multiband FM/HD Radio/DAB tuner is now also available with a BNC connector. This brings convenient off-air monitoring and backup reception to more products in the MPX family, including MPX-2d, MPX-2ds.
A new FM-MPX tuner goes one step further: instead of providing decoded audio only, it receives an FM signal and makes the complete MPX composite signal available. This makes it particularly useful as an independent backup source at FM transmitter sites.
Bringing FM Stereo and RDS into MoIN
We are bringing more of the proven functionality of our MPX product family into MoIN. New Stereo and RDS Encoder and Decoder functionality adds FM-related signal processing directly to the software platform.
This is another step towards establishing MoIN as a central encoding and distribution platform. Alongside web streaming and DAB+ encoding, broadcasters can now also handle FM stereo and RDS processing within the same software environment.
Instead of operating separate processing chains for different broadcast formats, MoIN provides a unified platform from which audio can be processed, encoded and distributed for multiple services and transmission technologies.
DAB Gets Easier to Integrate
We have continued to improve the integration possibilities of the 2wcom DAB+ Audio Encoder available in IP-4c, IP-8e and MoIN.
Dynamic Labels and Slideshow content could already be provided locally via file upload and the web interface. We have now added the possibility to provide this content via the REST API. This makes it easier to integrate the encoder into automated and visual radio workflows, for example together with systems such as AIM RAPID.
Support for Dynamic Label Plus has also been extended, providing greater flexibility in formatting and assigning tags to Dynamic Label content.
Another addition is the DAB EDI Decoder. It can decode audio services directly from the EDI multiplex feed distributed from the DAB headend to the transmitter network. The decoded audio can be used locally for convenience listening and monitoring, reused for other applications, or passed into a central monitoring environment such as eyera.
Interoperability Beyond Radio
Interoperability continues to be an important part of our AoIP development.
Our solutions now provide full support for NMOS IS-04 for discovery and registration and NMOS IS-05 for connection management. This makes it easier to discover 2wcom endpoints and integrate them into standards-based media networks and centralized routing environments.
We have also added SMPTE ST 302M support to our hardware devices. ST 302M allows AES3/AES-EBU formatted linear PCM audio to be carried within an MPEG-2 transport stream. This provides another interoperable way of integrating professional radio audio into infrastructures originally designed around television and video transport, without requiring unnecessary audio coding.
Together, NMOS, AES67, SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 302M give system integrators more options to connect 2wcom audio devices to existing broadcast infrastructures.
Monitoring, Recording and Verification
2wcom hardware can now also be used for direct audio recording.
Instead of relying on an external recording system, audio can be captured directly by the device. This is useful for applications such as compliance logging, troubleshooting and incident analysis.
Recordings can be stored using the optional internal SSD or on an external NAS, allowing longer recording periods as well as continuous or loop recording scenarios.
For operators, this provides another diagnostic tool directly at the point where the signal is received, processed or distributed.
Even More Functionality for the MPX-1g
The MPX-1g started as a highly integrated stereo and RDS encoder, but its role has continued to grow. New and extended functionality makes it a versatile building block for sophisticated FM distribution, monitoring and backup architectures.
The device can provide an encoded audio stream for convenience monitoring, making the received or processed broadcast signal available remotely without requiring an additional monitoring encoder.
Integrated Kantar watermark decoding can be used to verify whether the expected watermark is present in the broadcast signal and therefore adds another layer of signal verification.
With its optional DAB tuner, the MPX-1g can also operate as a DAB-to-FM rebroadcast receiver or backup source. The accompanying PAD-to-RDS Databridge automatically translates relevant DAB service information and Dynamic Labels into RDS information such as RadioText.
Turning Devices into System Components
We have also improved GPI and GPO integration across our devices.
Physical control signals can now be linked more easily with IP-based system actions. For example, a GPI input can trigger a JSON command to third-party equipment. A local contact closure could therefore trigger a Traffic Announcement on an external DAB multiplexer without requiring an additional control gateway.
This creates a practical bridge between traditional broadcast control infrastructure and modern API-based systems: existing GPIO signalling can remain in use while the actual action takes place in an IP-connected device or software application.
