Case Study: University
With more than 53,500 students, UCF is the third-largest university in the country and the largest in Florida. The university sought to enhance immediate communication to the university’s 1,415-acre Orlando campus.
UCF uses the 2wcom Emergency Solutions platform as part of a campus-wide RDS emergency notification network called UCF ALERT.
The system uses the latest version of common alerting protocol (CAP) to send an auto message directly to local alert receivers located in strategic areas to alert listeners about impending weather events, NOAA alerts (NOAA = National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), and other emergency notifications from university officials.
2wcom Emergency Solutions provides a turn-key platform for disaster warning and communication outreach to citizens, government officials and emergency management teams. The 2wcom Emergency Solutions platform uses existing FM radio infrastructure to offer affordable emergency warning and communications tools. This FM/RDS-based (Radio Data System) solution deploys unlimited, time-sensitive notices quickly to advise about disasters and provide community outreach and education notifications.
“We’re proud that our own radio station, WUCF 89.9 FM, hosts the broadcast equipment used by Orange County Office of Emergency Management in this effort,” Morgan says. “This shows that UCF is a true community partner. Not only are we working to enhance safety at the university, we are helping to make our local community safer as well.”
